Artist’s Statement

The glory of God is man, fully alive!“* I feel most fully alive when I am either in nature, enjoying His handiwork, or in my studio, wielding a paintbrush.

My interpretation of the natural environment follows in the Impressionist tradition. My palette of colours is not strictly ‘natural’ but is rather inspired by nature. Images are rendered loosely, sometimes melding into abstraction. I often start by asking, ‘what is this painting about?’, then set about to convey both the visual and the emotional tone of each experience. I am captivated by the naturally-occurring composition of nature—a well-placed rock outcropping or a cluster of pears.

Art is communication. My goal when I create a painting is to communicate the energy and joy I experience when I am truly ‘seeing’.
